Frequently Asked Questions

About the FasterMoney Card

The FasterMoney Card is a prepaid Visa card that can be used anywhere Visa debit is accepted worldwide, issued by MetaBank®, Member FDIC, pursuant to a license from Visa U.S.A. Inc. There is no risk of overdraft fees. It can be used at stores, online, to pay bills and to get cash at ATMs. Each time you spend, funds will be deducted from your FasterMoney Card account. There are multiple ways to reload the Card. For more details, see the section on reloading your Card below.

Note: If you obtained your Card through your tax preparer, certain functions such as reloading and usage outside of the United States are available only after identity verification has been completed.

No, this is not a credit card. A credit check is not required to get a card, though you are subject to identification verification.

In order for your Card to be fully verified, you would have provided MetaBank either online or by phone or given to your tax preparer, key identifying information like name, address, phone, DOB and SSN. There are certain thank you or bonus cards that are given to consumers that have a limited amount of money on them and are not considered “identity verified”. Those cards cannot be used outside of the U.S. and cannot be reloaded.

It’s easy to enroll. When you open a card, we will ask for your name, street address, date of birth and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see a copy of your driver’s license or other documents at any time. We may limit your ability to use your card or certain card features until we have been able to successfully verify your identity. Once we receive that information and verify it, we’ll send you the card. You can order a card by clicking here or by calling 855-693-3452.

Note: If you obtained your Card through your tax preparer, certain functions such as reloading and usage outside of the United States are available only after identity verification has been completed.

You need to be 18 years old to get a FasterMoney Card.

Fees & Limits

Yes, each month a $3.95 monthly fee is charged. See fee schedule in above question for more details.

If you obtained your Card through your tax preparer, certain functions such as reloading and usage outside of the United States are available only after identity verification has been completed.

Yes; some limits apply. For more detailed information, please refer to the Cardholder Agreement.

Note: If you obtained your Card through your tax preparer, certain functions such as reloading and usage outside of the United States are available only after identity verification has been completed.

The merchant may have attempted to process the purchase for a greater amount than what is available on the card. If a purchase is for more than your available balance, you may be able to perform a “split-tender transaction,” which means using multiple payment methods to pay for your transaction, as further described below.

If you wish to use your FasterMoney Card to make a purchase for more than your available funds, depending on the merchant’s policy, you may be able to use your card toward a portion of the final purchase price and then use another form of payment to pay the remaining balance. This is called a “split-tender transaction,” because you are splitting the final transaction amount between your card and another form of payment. Before you request a split-tender transaction, you will need to know your card balance. Then, you must ask the merchant if two forms of payment will be accepted. If the merchant agrees, request that the amount on your card be used as the first form of payment, and then use another form of funds to pay the remaining balance. Some retailers will only allow a split-tender transaction if the second form of payment is cash or check. Online and most mail-order merchants do not permit split-tender transactions. We do not guarantee that merchants will accept two forms of payment, such as two prepaid cards.

There are no overdraft fees.

Since this is a prepaid card, you may only use the amount of funds you have available on your card. If you create a negative balance on your card, you are responsible for repayment of the negative balance. Some merchants can run a split-tender transaction, which will allow you to pay a portion of your purchase with your card and the remaining balance with another form of payment.

Yes; you may use your card at a restaurant the same way you would at any other merchant. However, it is common for service-oriented merchants to automatically factor in an additional percentage (often times as much as 20 percent more than the purchase price) to cover any gratuity you may leave on the card. You should ensure that your card has an available balance that is 20 percent greater than your total bill.

Yes; you can rent a car with your card. However, the merchant may put a pre-authorization on the card to hold the reservation, and it may be for much more than the amount of the car rental to cover the cost of gas, car damage, etc. While that pre-authorization is in place, you will not have access to those funds. We recommend that you speak to the car-rental merchant to understand how it handles reservations before using your card to rent the car.

Like restaurants and other service-oriented merchants, companies associated with travel services may automatically factor in an additional percentage to cover incidental charges that you might incur. Each merchant varies in the amount it is able to over-authorize. To prevent a decline of your card, we advise you to check with the merchant in advance of making the transaction to determine its policy for over-authorizing.

Your card can be used at automatic fuel dispensers. However, an authorization amount which could be as much or more as your final gas purchase will be added to your account. This authorization may remain on your account for several days. To prevent this, we suggest that you pay for your gas at the service station counter.
